Have you ever looked forward to a special dinner with your loved one? You picture the two of you in a softly lit restaurant, seated at a table draped in crisp white linen. The glow of candlelight flickers between you, and in front of you sits a perfectly cooked, sizzling steak with buttery vegetables. As you enjoy the moment, you cut into your meal, eager for that first bite. But as you chew, you realize your dentures aren’t keeping up. They lack the bite force needed to break down the steak. You try to push through, focusing on the conversation. Your partner shares a joke, and as you smile and laugh, you feel your dentures shift uncomfortably, pressing into your gums. Instead of savoring the moment, you’re distracted by discomfort and frustration with your loose dentures.
If you find yourself in this situation, odds are it’s not the first time you’ve struggled with your dentures. But, if you want it to be your last, we have a solution!
The Problem With Loose Dentures
A loose denture can be the bane of your existence, especially when it takes the joy out of life’s simple pleasures! Traditional dentures, even when they’re well-fitting, significantly reduce bit force compared to natural teeth. Without a strong bite force, chewing tougher meats or crunchy vegetables is difficult or even impossible, often leading to a restricted diet. Over time, avoiding certain foods can result in nutritional deficiencies.
But the challenges don’t stop there—loose dentures shift and move, creating friction that irritates your gums and causes sore spots. Wearing dentures with these sore spots only leads to more pain, discomfort, and even inflammation, creating an unfortunate cycle. When your dentures don’t fit securely and comfortably, every meal becomes a frustrating experience.
As if that wasn’t enough, loose dentures can also lead to speech problems, making it difficult to speak clearly and enjoy socializing.
And to top it off, you can experience bone loss. Because dentures don’t replace tooth roots—which provided necessary stimulation to your jawbone—your jawbone can weaken and deteriorate. This often leads to a sunken facial appearance, impacting your self-esteem.
Functional concerns? Pain and discomfort? Speech problems? Bone loss? Each of these is reason enough to seek better alternatives.
Solutions for Loose Dentures
At the Utah Denture and Implant Center, Dr. Reudi Tillmann offers implant dentures, an excellent solution to those frustrating “floating” denture problems.
Dr. Tillman reinforces your implant dentures with mini dental implants, providing a reliable and durable solution for a full arch of replacement teeth. Mini dental implants are made from titanium, a strong metal that doctors have been using in medical situations for over 70 years.
When placing mini implants for dentures, Dr. Tillmann uses a minimally invasive technique to situate a series of implants throughout your jawbone. He carefully drills several small holes through the gums and into the jawbone, placing a mini implant in each. Through osseointegration, the implant will integrate with your bone tissue, leading to a strong, stable foundation for replacement teeth.
Implant Denture Options
At the Utah Denture and Implant Center, we understand that our patients’ dental needs are as diverse as their personalities. In light of this, we offer various types of implant dentures to choose from. The right type for you will depend on your dental goals, personal preferences, and budget.
- Implant-retained overdenture: Known as a snap-in denture, this tooth replacement option resembles a traditional denture. It has a pink-colored, acrylic base that holds false teeth, but it eliminates the bulkiness that a conventional denture needs to stay in place. Instead, the overdenture snaps on and off mini dental implants, providing stability whenever you’re wearing your dentures. For this option, Dr. Tillmann will place four to six mini implants to anchor a lower arch and six to eight implants to secure an upper arch.
- Semi-removable roundhouse: A roundhouse bridge is a type of full-arch restoration that uses the highest quality materials, such as zirconia, for the most durable and beautiful results. For a semi-removable roundhouse, Dr. Tillmann will stabilize the bridge with six to 10 mini implants. We also call this system “Fix-on-Six.” We refer to the bridge as semi-removable because only Dr. Tillmann will remove it for professional cleaning. That means you’ll never have to take it out yourself, giving you one less thing to worry about!
- Non-removable roundhouse: If you prefer a non-removable option, Dr. Tillman can permanently cement the roundhouse onto 10-12 mini implants. This is the “Cadillac” of denture alternatives, as it provides the highest level of stability, comfort, and functionality. We recommend this option for patients seeking the most hassle-free, long-lasting, and beautiful results.
Say Goodbye to Loose Dentures for Good!
Implant dentures solve many common denture problems, like shifting, slipping, and sore spots that make eating and speaking a challenge. Implant dentures address these issues by providing a secure, stable fit that eliminates the worry of movement or discomfort. Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums, implant dentures are anchored to mini dental implants, preventing irritation and painful sores caused by friction. This stability also improves bite force, allowing you to enjoy various foods without struggle. Juicy steak, corn-on-the-cob, and raw veggies? They’re all back on the menu!
And because mini implants stimulate the jawbone, they help prevent bone loss. This supports long-term oral health and preserves your facial structure. With implant dentures, you can speak clearly, eat confidently, and live without the daily frustrations of loose dentures. Ready to learn more?
