What Is a CBCT Scan?

In this video, Dr. Ruedi Tillmann explains how CBCT scans provide detailed imaging for precise diagnosis and treatment planning. Contact our Kaysville office for a free consultation and explore this advanced technology, whether you’re in Ogden or Greater Salt Lake City.

A CBCT, or Cone Beam Computed Tomography, is a specialized imaging tool that provides detailed 3D images of your oral structures. Despite its advanced capabilities, it emits less radiation than a standard chest X-ray, making it a safe and efficient diagnostic method.

The CBCT scan captures your entire head, providing critical information in three dimensions (X, Y, and Z axes). This allows us to evaluate the thickness, density, and overall quality of your bone. This information is essential for determining the best type of prosthesis and the optimal placement of implants to support your restoration, such as a denture-supported implant prosthesis.

Unlike conventional X-rays, which provide only flat, two-dimensional images, the CBCT offers a complete 3D view. This detailed imaging allows us to uncover factors that might not be visible during a standard exam or with traditional X-rays, ensuring precise treatment planning for the best possible outcomes.
