What Is a Dental Implant and How Does It Work?
In this video, Dr. Ruedi Tillmann explains the structure, function, and benefits of dental implants for replacing missing teeth. We welcome patients from Ogden and Greater Salt Lake City to schedule a free consultation at our Kaysville office and explore this transformative treatment.
Over the past 20 years, dental implants have become a common and effective way to replace missing teeth in dental offices. They provide a reliable, long-term solution without impacting adjacent teeth.
A dental implant consists of three main components:
1. The Implant: This is the small metal post, often made of titanium, that is surgically placed into the jawbone. It acts as an artificial tooth root, providing a stable foundation.
2. The Abutment: This fixture is attached to the implant and serves as a connector, holding the replacement tooth securely in place.
3. The Crown: This is the visible part of the restoration, crafted to look and function like a natural tooth. It is placed on top of the abutment, completing the restoration.
Dental implants are a great option because they restore your tooth without needing to alter the surrounding teeth, as is required with a traditional bridge. Implants look, feel, and function just like natural teeth, offering an excellent solution for maintaining oral health and aesthetics.
