What Is Full Mouth Reconstruction?
In this video, Dr. Ruedi Tillmann explains how full mouth reconstruction can restore function and aesthetics to your smile. Residents of Ogden and Greater Salt Lake City are welcome to arrange a free consultation at our Kaysville office to create their customized treatment plan.
Many patients come in wanting to know if they should keep their teeth, go to a denture, or explore other options. The answer depends on the condition of your mouth and the severity of any oral disease, which we will evaluate during your visit.
Our priority is always to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. However, in cases where keeping your teeth is not feasible, we may recommend a full-mouth reconstruction. This can be done in several ways:
1. Denture-Supported by Multiple Implants:
– For patients who cannot keep their teeth, we often recommend placing multiple implants to support a denture.
– Unlike procedures where all teeth are anchored on just four implants (which may fail if even one implant is lost), using multiple implants ensures stability even if an implant fails.
– This allows you to continue wearing your prosthesis without interruption.
2. Implant-Supported Roundhouse Bridge:
– This involves creating a full-arch bridge, often referred to as a “roundhouse,” which is supported by six to eight implants.
– The bridge is crafted as a single piece, replacing all teeth in an arch.
– It can be either permanently glued in place or made as a removable option that snaps securely into the implants, based on your preference.
3. Restoring Natural Teeth with Bridges:
– If you still have salvageable teeth, we can use bridges to restore function and aesthetics, preserving as much of your natural structure as possible.
A full-mouth reconstruction ensures that you have teeth that are both aesthetically pleasing and fully functional. Whether you choose dentures, bridges, or an implant-supported roundhouse, the solution will be tailored to your needs.
While the cost of these options can vary, many patients find the long-term benefits of improved function, comfort, and appearance well worth the investment. Full-mouth reconstruction restores not just your smile but also your ability to eat, speak, and live confidently.
