What to Do If You Lose a Filling or Crown
In this video, Dr. Ruedi Tillmann explains the immediate steps to take if you lose a filling or crown and how we can restore your tooth. Contact our Kaysville office, serving Ogden and Greater Salt Lake City, for a free consultation to address your dental emergency.
If you came in with a crown in hand, our first step would be to perform a thorough examination, including taking an X-ray, to evaluate the condition of the tooth. Based on the assessment, we would determine the appropriate course of action.
In some cases, if there is extensive decay or damage, the tooth may not be salvageable with a crown or a regular filling. If this happens, the tooth may need to be extracted. The good news is that with a mini implant, we can often place the implant on the same day as the extraction. A temporary restoration can be attached immediately, allowing you to leave the office with a tooth in place.
Within about a week, once the tissue begins to heal, you’ll be able to use the restored tooth normally. This streamlined process minimizes downtime and ensures you regain function and confidence quickly.
