What to Expect During the Dental Crown Process
In this video, Dr. Ruedi Tillmann explains the steps involved in receiving a dental crown, from preparation to placement. Residents of Ogden and Greater Salt Lake City are invited to schedule a free consultation at our Kaysville office to begin their treatment.
In some cases, we have to deliver the unfortunate news that a tooth is too damaged to be saved in its original form. When this happens, a traditional crown often becomes the best solution.
The process begins by removing all decay and restoring the remaining tooth structure. If there isn’t enough structure to support a filling, we perform a crown preparation, shaping the tooth to hold a custom-made crown. This is a routine dental procedure that restores both the function and natural appearance of the tooth. Crowns are a common and reliable option in dentistry, ensuring long-term health and durability.
However, in situations where the tooth cannot be saved and breaks down completely, we turn to dental implants. An implant is placed into the bone to act as the foundation for a replacement tooth. Following this, a temporary crown is provided to maintain functionality and aesthetics. Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone, a permanent lab-crafted crown is placed. This final crown is highly functional, beautifully aesthetic, and designed to last a lifetime with proper care.
Whether it’s a traditional crown or an implant-supported restoration, the goal is to leave you with a strong, natural-looking, and long-lasting solution for your smile.
